A brighter smile, done safely

Teeth naturally darken over time — from ageing, food and drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine, and habits like smoking. Professional whitening is one of the most straightforward and effective ways to refresh your smile.

At Smile Spot Mawson Lakes, we offer professional whitening solutions supervised by our dental team, so you can be confident the treatment is safe for your teeth and gums. Over-the-counter whitening products vary widely in quality and can cause sensitivity if used incorrectly — a professional approach reduces these risks.

Your whitening options

In-chair whitening

Our in-chair Zoom whitening treatment is completed in a single appointment. A professional-strength whitening gel is applied to your teeth and activated with a light, significantly lightening the shade of your teeth in around an hour.

This is ideal if you want noticeable results quickly — for a special occasion or simply because you'd prefer not to wait.

Take-home whitening kits

We take impressions of your teeth and create a set of custom-fitted whitening trays. You'll receive a professional-strength whitening gel to use at home, typically for 30–60 minutes a day over one to two weeks.

Take-home kits are flexible and allow you to whiten at your own pace. The custom trays also make top-up whitening easy in the future.

Is whitening right for you?

Whitening works on natural tooth enamel. It won't change the colour of crowns, veneers, or composite fillings. If you have these restorations on visible teeth, we'll discuss this with you during a consultation so you can make an informed decision.

Some people experience increased sensitivity during and after whitening. This is usually temporary. We'll assess your suitability for whitening at your consultation and advise on how to minimise any discomfort.

For best results, we recommend completing a check-up and clean before whitening so we're starting with the cleanest possible surface. Individual results vary depending on the original shade of your teeth and the type of staining.

Aftercare tips

  • Avoid deeply coloured foods and drinks (coffee, tea, red wine, berries) for 48 hours after treatment
  • If you experience sensitivity, use a desensitising toothpaste and avoid very hot or cold drinks
  • Maintain good brushing and flossing habits to keep your smile looking its best
  • Top-up whitening may be needed periodically — your custom trays make this easy
