Regular check-ups and professional cleans are the cornerstone of good oral health. At Smile Spot Mawson Lakes, we make time for a thorough examination at every visit — not just a quick look. We want to understand your dental health fully so we can give you the right advice and care.

Most people benefit from a check-up and clean every six months, though your dentist will recommend a schedule based on your individual circumstances. If it's been a while since your last visit, don't worry — we see all kinds of situations and there's no judgement here.

What's included in your check-up

Comprehensive examination

Your dentist carefully checks each tooth for signs of decay, cracks, or wear. We also examine your gums, bite, jaw joint, and soft tissues — looking at the full picture of your oral health.

Gum health assessment

Gum disease is common and often silent in its early stages. We check the health of your gums and supporting bone, and advise you if we notice any signs that need attention.

Dental X-rays (when needed)

X-rays let us see decay between teeth, changes in bone levels, and other issues that aren't visible to the eye. We take X-rays only when they add clinical value — not as a routine for every visit.

Professional scale and clean

Our hygienist or dentist removes plaque and tartar build-up from all tooth surfaces, including areas your brush can't reach. Your teeth are then polished, leaving them feeling clean and smooth.

Personalised care plan

At the end of your appointment, your dentist will explain any findings and discuss your options. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your dental health and what — if anything — needs to happen next.

What to expect at your visit

A standard check-up and clean typically takes around 45–60 minutes. We'll start by reviewing your medical and dental history, then complete the examination and clean. There's always time to ask questions — we want you to feel informed and comfortable.

We're open Monday to Thursday with evening appointments available, and Friday mornings. With three dentists on staff, we can usually accommodate your preferred time without a long wait.
